Updates from Elder & Sister Hafen 5/24/09

I made some goof ups on my blog yesterday - you can tell it was the end of the day and I was tired...............I am learning!!!

Weather here is different - we get 70-75 in the day, but in the middle of the night, we are pulling up the covers as it dips to low forties........We are walking as often as possible. There are paved sidewealks so we walk them about 2 miles per day. There are some pretty steep hills so we get a pretty good workout.........and the 7300 altitude is still making us huff and puff!

Elder Hafen broke the ear piece on his glasses the other day - so they told us to leave the office and drive to Gallup to get it fixed at Wallmart........since Window Rock doesn't have any service like that! We laughed so hard when we got to the optical department there and she told us to go and get some "super glue" and fix it ourselves!! After our trip over and all...........What weas even funnier was when we left the store - a greeter came to Elder Hafen with a little stuffed toy - "A smiling Grandpa" and told him he needed to smile bigger................so we immediately took his advice!!

Navajo Beauty -

We've been to a couple of gift shops.......not been to a flea market yet where the good deals are? We have had a couple of people in the office trying to sell us jewelry and sand paintings............ And then there are all the women we see at church and everywhere.....oh, my goodness the jewelry is spectacular - I am making a wish list!! Usually they have a different price for billiganas...........

Hafen Humor.....

We laughed so hard this week - we are still struggling once in awhile to ALWAYS remember to call each other "Elder and Sister Hafen".......we were in the office with about 3 people working on various things - when Elder Hafen came into my part of the office and said............"Hey Babe - where are the job listings?"........................Ooops............I mean "Sister Hafen"..............Everyone there had afun with that while he tired to explain himself!

President Beck and President Boone have put a hold on the piano lessons for the time being and are still working on the Addiction Recovery - so we are waiting on that. Institute classes are good and we have them in our living room each Sunday evening. We have folding chairs isn the one bedroom, so we just set up a regular little classroom. The Navajo people are very spiritual, warm and accepting.

Faith in Every Footstep....

We were so touched this week by the two young elders that live next to us. Elder Smith (from BC) was transferred and a new elder from North Carolina was transferred in. He'd been serving in Phoenix (110 degrees) and was to thankful to be where it was cooler. He was dressed so sharply and his shoes were shined to perfection. They stopped by for us to meet him and talked a while..........later than evening they stopped in again - both looking beat and their shoes were both caked in dust, shirts not quite as starched as the morning.........but grinning from ear to ear - they'd tracted for 3 horus or more (tracting here is parking their truck at the beginning of a dirt road and walking till they find a trailer or hogan - that's faith in every footstep. They almost seem like our boys and we love 'em.............
