Winter is still........................here!

We are having snow again today.............after church as I was in the foyer several people there said to me......."Sister Hafen - do you know what we call this weather here???" Of course I said no! They told me it was called "inlaw weather".................because when it is like this the inlaws stay home!!!

Ride em Cowboy - or would that be Ride em Indian????

The couple married last week had the birthday party of their son Weston on the 27th....he is "5"- and a big boy. Birthday parties here are huge................all the family comes because they want the child to know how much they are loved by their entire family and to make their family connections strong.............it is a great thing.........In the prayer for the food Wilfred blessed Weston in so many wonderful words and feelings - it was powerful - asking that he would learn the importance of the church and the many blessings it could bring into his life.........Fun party - tons of food - steak, burgers, grilled chicken............as you can see by the tables..........

House Guests.........

Another surprise today - about 5:00 on Thursday Daniel Laughing and Elder Wight came carrying Elder White to our house - he'd been chopping wood for 6 hours service project and also shoveling snow off roofs, etc........and something happened to his back and he could not move! So after called to the mission president and the mission nurse - and also a call by an orthopedic surgeon - it was determined that he should just stay on our floor for about 24 hours.......so he and Elder Wight and Daniel spent the night in our home. The Elders from Crystal also came down and so we had 5 extra people for 3 meals per day - felt like we were operating a hospital/cafeteria for sure.............it was good to serve them and they were so appreciative.......We did not go to Zone Interviews since we tended Elder White that day.......He is doing much better now!!

Family Home Evening with the Chun Family

We had dinner at the Chun Family Home and then they asked us to do the lesson........we did it on prayer.........Interestingly enough - Brother Chun was not feeling well while we were there....and the next morning he was taken to Gallup where they diagnosed him with bleeding on the brain. He was taken to Phoenix where they said that he had a stroke which affected his eyes for the peripheral vision......not good. Life is fragile - one moment we are there having fun and within hours the whole scenario is changed. We need to treasure every moment!

Visit was too short........

The time passed way too quickly for our visit.............it was so fun to have Kim and Kenzie visit....but after church we ate dinner and drove to Albuquerque where they flew back to Seattle.........happy memories again of a fun visit.

Wedding Bells are ringing........

Kim and Kenzie got to go with us to the wedding.............. Wilfred Haskie and Corrina Plumber were married today - Corinna wants to be baptized (and of course they needed to be married first)............they have been together for about 8 years.......Weston their son and Bishop Jerome Willie who performed the marriage.............Sister Hafen got to play the piano for the wedding....What neat people they are!! Both of them have been in the office. Wilfred was actually on placement and was already a member. We set up Corrina to have the missionary discussions.............

Visit from Kim and Mackenzie

We had a delightful visit from Kim and Mackenzie - they arrived on Thursday afternoon and left again on Sunday............but it was fun to have them here to see our world and the people we love so much here. They added a lift to our week end..............It is so great to have family and friends be able to visit and be a part of our life here! We love it!

VALENTINE'S DAY - DAY OF BAPTISMS........

This became a day of baptisms. The Ganado Elders had a baptism at 2:00 which I helped with the music................we had a little family to dinner - then the Elders came over and hadn't eaten yet - so they ate the rest of what we had!! Ha ha........

Then at 3:00 they had baptisms of "4" people..........it was two sisters - Primary age and a brother and sister 18 and 16...............what a neat day - fantastic............great day!

Work Progresses.............

We are thankful for health and strength to do all that we do each day!! We oftentimes say that we are busier now than we were when we worked.............we have been able to place 4 people in positions with some other possibilities coming along. But we have been able to talk with people about the gospel in their lives and are helping people with that almost every single day! That is rewarding.

We had another P-day tossed aside when they rescheduled Zone Conference to Saturday the 13th...........in Flagstaff (3 hours each way) so that took all the day. We left early with the Elders and Daniel...........good Zone Conference - nice training, nice to be with all the missionaries and enjoy the day. Flagstaff is nice - nice building. The focus of our conference was being "bold" missionaries and the training was good

President Beck made a BIG announcement.........beginning JULY 1st we will no longer be in the Arizona Phoenix Mission - we will be the NEW MEXICO FARMINGTON mission which will take
in almost all the reservations here - with President Jones being our new mission president (he is now in the 2nd quorum of the Seventy)..........so more change!!! All the Elders here are now praying that they get to stay on the reservation - they love to serve here rather than in the valley (Phoenix)......

We still have snow................

Just a few shots to show we still have snow.............this has been a year of snow. They did claim emergency and have been taking food out by helicopter to outlying homes and hogans (which is a great percentage of the people)..............and now that it is melting it is MUD!!!! The Elders trucks just were parked, so I took a couple of shots of them - they are mildly covered compared to the people who actually live out in the boon docks here!! We are still able to travel around and things are okay here..............
