Sunday 29th......

We went to Crystal to their little branch to speak. Beautiful morning again. With the heavy winter and all of the rains this summer, we truly have our desert blossoming as a rose! Fields are covered everywhere and it is beautiful!

Our Mission Conference in Farmington was all the missionaries in our New Mexico Farmington mission............160+ we had visiting authorities from Salt Lake - Elder Neil A Anderson , an apostle, Elder Gonzales - presidency of the 70's, Elder Webb, area authority, and our own mission president President Jones, a seventy and also our mission president! What a spiritual packed morning...........wonderful messages and powerful to all be together. We are so grateful to be serving here!

I Think the World is Beautiful and Lovely as Can Be.......

President Gordon B. Hinckley spoke of the power of God's creations to strengthen testimony when he said: "Can any man who has walked beneath the stars at night, can anyone who has seen the touch of spring upon the land doubt the hand of divinity in creation? So observing the beauties of the earth, one is wont to speak as did the Psalmist: 'the heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.' (Psalms 19:1-2). All of beauty in the earth bears the fingerprint of the Master Creator."

We were certainly witnesses of this on our way to our Mission Conference in Farmington as we passed through rain, sunrise and rainbows............incredible and touching to our souls......

August 27th, 2010 A "Highlight Baptism"

Dorothy Upshaw was baptized tonight by Elder Hafen. What a wonderful night. Dorothy had waited for 19 years for baptism and she was so excited and grateful.........it was truly a night to remember to share in this event with her, and to be instrumental in helping her reach this goal.

Bless her heart............

One of our candidates at the workshop was telling us her favorite things to do and it was "running" and so I asked her where she ran and when........................her reply was "Oh, I can't run now at all...........I don't have any shoes to run in...................." She is an unemployed certified nursing assistant.......(Count your blessings today!)

Career Workshop.............August

Just three people to the workshop, but we had a blast and they learned so much in the course of the day.........None of them were members of the church......so we had some religious discussion as well during lunch...........This has become such a fun thing to do. The Navajo are a quiet, shy and reserved people and it is fun to see them come forth as we get to know them............

Travis Begay............

This is our new convert, Travis Begay. He is the one that we introduced to the church through our Career Workshop. He is doing so well in the church -- he received the priesthood and is passing the sacrament each week................(of course in white shirt and tie) and often with tears in his eyes. He also works out at the Wellness Center every day several times per day....but one of them is in the morning when we go. He used to weigh 289 pounds and has dropped 100 pounds going from size 42 to 32 pants. He came by in his new maroon shirt when he completed his first half marathon and came in second in his age division - 15th overall. He was so proud of his medal and his shirt.............

Baptism......

We arrived home in time to go to the baptism of Rebekah Talker a young and beautiful teenager. What a joy she is! As we sat in the baptism it dawned on me that there were not any refreshments there..........so during the talks I ran home and put together a great tray of goodies (fortunately I'd made double of the things that I took to the Senior Couple meetings and it turned out great.........whew!!
