Fry Bread............

Oops............picture went wrong..........after the baptism Daniel Laughing and his Mother invited us to their home for lunch. They were making "fry bread" - reminded me of Mom making bread. Sister Yose didn't measure anything just did it by feel - see how light those little rolls are....then they flatten them with their hands going back and forth - kind of reminded me of pizza......And then into the hot oil and they puff up and are light and fluffy.........(they use fry bread for "everything" ) with honey, powdered sugar, brown sugar, Navajo tacos.......on and on.

We also had corn chowder. This was so interesting and Wena told me it takes forever to make. They take ears of corn and put them into an outdoor oven or under the ground and put steam in with the corn over night and then take it out and let it dry. After this they store it like we would beans. Then when they are ready to cook it they put it in the pot to boil. They had it with chunks of mutton today. I liked the flavor. It is not soft completely. It is not cooked with any salt I don't think, but then individually everyone put their own salt in. Wena told me that you never waste any of it because it takes so long to make. We had watermelon for dessert.........Fun day. Their little home was fun. We met Daniel's two brothers and a sister.
