Butterfly Dance............

It was so beautiful - we came to a village where they were having the "Butterfly Dance", so we watched one round of dancing. This is a dance where all the young girls who are virgins choose a nephew to dance with and then the nephew makes her head dress for the dance. During the dance the family of the girl brings to the boy baskets and boxes of food and groceries and the mother of the boy comes out and places a beautiful shawl on the girl for choosing her son. The girls in turn give baskets and boxes of baked goods to the boys. Some of the dancers were tiny....but they never missed a beat. It is beautiful. The men singers stand outside the lines of dancers doing the song. We stood beside a family from Germany vacationing here, so they would ask questions and we'd ask Shirley and then relay the information to them. It was fascinating. People line the plaza (lots on the roofs) and it was hot yesterday there (about 91)..Shirley remembers dancing this dance and the Buffalo Dance and a couple of others.
