Canyon de Chelly National Monument Arizona 7-17-09

Finally Elder Hafen got to see Canyon de Chelly - he has wanted to get here since we came to the Rez............we took Daniel Lauging, Elder Mizelle and Elder Wilson with us to Zone Conference in Polacca and then drove up through Chinle to the Canyon after the conference.............Daniel is Navajo and has a great knowledge of traditions here...........his mother was born in the bottom of Canyon de Chelly.......we are planning a fall trip with him to hike down to the place where she was born.............you can't go down without permission from family that lives there now. We arrived late afternoon and enjoyed the canyon at the setting of the sun.............Ran into a photographer from Missouri who was filming there for a news company - had quite a discussion with him and as we left he gave us a DVD that he had made previously of the Utah parks......
